Christmas is approaching. This means that it is time for Christmas markets in various locations across Västerbotten.
With barely a month to go before Christmas, it is time for all
of the traditional Christmas markets to begin. Market traders set
up their market in Saxnäs at Saxnäsgården on 21 November; Father
and Mother Christmas were there, a Sami concert was put on at the
church, and there was walking bingo and dog-sledding. This, along
with a number of other activities, was included in
the extensive programme.
However, Saxnäs is not the only place that celebrates the arrival of Christmas with traditional events.
Christmas markets all over the county
Olofsfors Ironworks in Nordmaling has opened up, and there
will be a traditional Christmas market at Västerbotten's
Museum on 5-6 December. On 12 December, the festivities will
continue in Umeå at the upper-secondary school Forslundska
gymnasiet on Pilgatan. In addition, Umeå's large Christmas
market will take place over ten days, 11-20 December.
On the weekends of 28-29 November and 4-6 December, the zoo in Lycksele will be transformed into a Christmas park.Gammplatsen will also open its doors to host a traditional Christmas market during the first weekend of Advent, on 28-29 November.
Skellefteå will host Nordanå Christmas market on 6 December and there will be festivities at Udden i Tärnaby on 5 December.
As you can see, there is a wide range of activities to choose from and this is only a small selection of the treats Västerbotten has to offer on the tantalizing journey toward the Christmas Eve celebrations.
